On Wholeness
Emotional Sovereignty
There are two truths that live in me
without needing to argue.
One knows how to rest —
how to set the story down, how to let silence be enough.
The other is a human heart,
unafraid of its own capacity to care.
I cared.
I still do.
And it no longer hurts.
What once wounded became a measure of growth —
proof that I can love, learn, and remain intact.
I do not believe you were all bad.
I believe you were hurting, perhaps trapped
in places I was never meant to enter.
That compassion remains — quiet, unspoken,
no longer reaching outward.
Because care that costs me myself is not kindness.
It is abandonment.
So I hold the wish in silence:
may you be well.
And I keep myself.
This chapter does not end in blame, nor in longing.
It ends in discernment.
I do not close the door in anger —
I close it with understanding.
And I walk on, whole.
Reluctantly,
Gene
